Google cries foul over MS/Yahoo! deal

Google is crying foul over the proposed Microsoft buyout of Yahoo!. According to the BBC, Google feel that “the tie-up could unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors’ email and instant messaging services.”

Google’s top legal exec, David Drummond, has been quoted as saying Microsoft is looking to exert “inappropriate and illegal influence” on the Internet, says the BBC.

The BBC’s dot.life blog entry on this story compares the developments to a “complex game of chess that will encompass ordinary users, politicians, regulators and businessmen”.

Whether Google or Microsoft will win this game of chess is still anyone’s guess.
