Prime Minister of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi is currently reading out Kosovo’s official unilateral declaration of independence.
UPDATE: And that will do it, as Mr Thaçi proclaims Kosovo an “independent, sovereign state”. He wants Kosovo in the EU “as soon as possible”, he says, and that he is “thankful to all the European countries … for installing democratic values”. Kosovo’s independence will follow the Ahtisaari plan.
In a response speech, Serbia’s Prime Minister condemned the declaration, calling Kosovo a “false state”. Speaking on CNN International, Serbia’s Ambassador to Washington also similarly emphasises that his country will not accept Kosovo as an independent country.
