Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to respond accordingly to what he says is “a new phase in the arms race [that] is unfolding in the world”, whilst condemning the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) for expanding eastwards towards Russia’s borders.
“We are forced to retaliate,” he said. “Russia has, and always will have, responses.” Today’s speech by President Putin comes just days after the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said it would boycott March’s presidential elections.
Are we headed for a new Cold War? Russia’s military might is only growing by the day. Then again Putin will do anything and say anything just to inflame tensions. Is this just rhetoric?
