The incumbent pro-Western President of Serbia, Boris Tadić, won re-election yesterday in an election where the main campaigning subject was the future of Kosovo. Mr Tadić won with a reported 50.5% of the vote, according to CNN International television, beating pro-Russia nationalist candidate Tomislav Nikolić.

The French government has taken further steps to evacuate foreign civilians from N’Djamena, Chad, as fighting there between government forces and Khartoum-backed rebels intensifies. According to the BBC, thousands of people have fled N’Djamena.
The government claims to have defeated the rebels, who say they have withdrawn only to give civilians an opportunity to leave. Reuters [...]

The United States has admitted that its troops killed nine civilians in Iskandariya, Iraq, in an air strike on Saturday. Among the dead, it admitted, was one child, with two other children and an adult injured. The statement did not give specific details, except to say “the incident is under investigation”.

Google is crying foul over the proposed Microsoft buyout of Yahoo!. According to the BBC, Google feel that “the tie-up could unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors’ email and instant messaging services.”
